Dmitri Shostakovich: Lady MacBeth of the Mtsensk District. Vocal score
The famous, scandal-arousing expressionistic work, besides Berg's "Wozzeck" and Zimmermann's "The Soldiers" the most important opera event of the century, celebrated in 1934/35 as young Shostakovich's stroke of genius throughout the world, banned in 1935 by Stalin's verdict, brought out again 25 years later in a bowlerized version under the title "Katerina Ismailova", is presented here in its original version of 1932.
Sofia Gubaidulina: Homage to Marina Tsvetayeva. Suite in five movements for mixed choir a cappella. Score
Gubaidulina’s choir work “Homage to Marina Tsvetayeva“, composed in the year 1984, was premiered by the Swedish Radio Choir on 27 November 1989 in Stockholm.
Aram Khachaturian: Sonatina for Piano
Khachaturian wrote his brilliant C major Sonatina in 1959 and dedicated it to pupils of the Elementary Music School in Prokopyevsk. Its modest structures and aspirations should not hide from us the fact that it is extraordinarily effective as a concert display piece and contains more than its fair share of humour and lyricism too. In sum, the Sonatina is a work not to miss!
